New Year, New Us? Part Deux

Hello again,


 I’d like to continue the flow from our last email/blog and start to expand on the pivotal transitions that have happened in 2020.  With the year starting off strong, we started looking into what we could offer to help expand on what our brand is and who we are behind the brand. As we started putting some pieces together and formulating new content and products, the world got flipped on its head and turned everything upside down.


As Covid started to become a harsh reality in our world, it seemed we needed to take a step back and reevaluate what we do, how we do it and most of all… what the meaning of it all is for us. Compounded by the international awareness of the disproportionate amount of injustices taken out on people of color, I decided to really look at what it is to be a black business in America and what we could do to actually make some change in our corner of the world. Rather than solely focusing on spotlighting the problems, I decided to actively reach out to other black owned brands to open the lines of communication and see what we could do together. Luck would have it, we were not alone in our pursuits and our mission became “collaboration over competition” for the remainder of the year.


In the midst of that revelation, I decided to go “all in” and lease a much larger space for all of our manufacturing, offices, and soon to be podcast space. With everything that was going on in the world… the uncertainty of it all... it hit me like a ton of bricks. “Nothing is guaranteed and at the very least, I rather be doing what I love than trying to just survive.” Though daunting to say the least, we got to work with the build out, reaching out to brands, ordering a ton more raw materials and overall just pouring ourselves into Unplugged.


From August till the end of the year, we had the marvelous opportunity to collaborate with The Black Box , Bifties Gifts , The Center For HAS ,You Had Me At Black , True Yoga VT , Buy Black NB & Garden Based. These brands truly are amazing and they helped us finish the year stronger, more focused and above all grateful. Not only did they help us grow our brand, they inspired us to push harder in a time where everything was so uncertain for us. 


Wrapping up the year we moved into the space early November, had an amazing holiday season and ended the year on a high note. Coming into 2021, we are working on expanding our product line outside of the soaks, getting my podcast “Other People’s Process” off the ground, moving to more sustainable packaging and finally just trying to be the best at what we do. 


I’m sure 2020 was as hectic for you as it was for us. The reason I wanted to share all this was to be as transparent as possible as to our objectives as a brand and the overall journey of it all. At the end of the day, the very least I can do is share this voyage with you. It’s been pretty extraordinary up until this point and I’m sure it will continue to do so. 


From my first float experience and the crazy idea to open a wellness center, to the challenging pivot and formulation of the products, the goal has always been to “pursue my passions righteously to the best of my ability” and I hope showing you the backstory allows you to see who I am and what Unplugged Essentials is all about. 


I hope this year brings you joy, peace and passion.
